Greening the Future: Yachting Malta Hosts Marina Personnel Training Day as Part of Power4Med Initiative
Yachting Malta Ltd, in collaboration with the Power4Med project, recently hosted a comprehensive training day titled “Greening the Future: Advanced Tools & Strategic Planning for Marina Sustainability.”
The event brought together marina managers and operational staff to explore innovative strategies for achieving sustainability across Malta’s marina network. As part of the broader Power4Med initiative, the training focused on equipping marina operators with the knowledge, tools, and expert support needed to transition toward greener operations. Sessions covered a wide range of topics, including environmental resource management, carbon capture, alternative energy solutions, biodiversity integration, and international best practices.
Speakers included senior representatives from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), WestMED, Recowatt, and Action for Community Transformation (ACT), as well as local and international experts in marina operations. A highlight of the programme was a case study presentation on sustainable innovation from D-Marin Zea Marina and the Ellinikon Project in Athens, which followed a recent visit by several marina managers as part of the wider Power4Med programme focused on sustainable marina practices.

“Power4Med has been part of Yachting Malta’s long term sustainbility vision, and since joining this project in 2023, Yachting Malta and its stakeholders have been making significant steps in its collaborative efforts to make its marinas sustainable in the longer term.” Commented Yachting Malta’s CEO Michael Mifsud, during the training day.

Building on the expertise and knowledge gained through this initiative, the training day concluded with a highly engaging and collaborative session dedicated to developing a five-year sustainability roadmap for Malta’s marinas.
Certificates of participation were presented by Yachting Malta Chairperson, Hon. Chris Agius, who remarked, “This initiative underscores Yachting Malta’s commitment to promoting sustainability, innovation, and excellence in the island’s maritime sector—an ongoing effort that has been embraced by the industry’s stakeholders.”

Power4Med is co-funded by the European Union. Yachting Malta thanked Transport Malta for hosting the Training Day at their premises in Lija.
