International fleet for Yachting Malta Coastal Race

The Yachting Malta Coastal Race, organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, is scheduled to start at 9:30 CEST on Wednesday, 16 October. Some 50 race boats from 16 nations will gather in Marsamxett Harbour for this spectacular day race, which takes in much of the scenic Maltese archipelago. An important prelude to the Rolex Middle Sea Race, which starts on Saturday, the race offers both local and international crews a final chance to test systems and sharpen crew work on Malta’s famously tricky waters.

12 Maltese boats will defend the island state’s fiercely proud sailing reputation, taking on experienced teams from Austria, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

Starting and finishing in Marsamxett Harbour, under the watchful gaze of spectators gathered at the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the race has three possible routes to keep everyone guessing and geared to get the best from the prevailing conditions. The final course decision will be announced before the Skippers’ Briefing at 18:00 on Tuesday, 15 October.
