Royal Malta Yacht Club hopeful that Offshore Sailing World Championships will still take place in October.
Yachting Malta supporting selection process
The Royal Malta Yacht Club is still hopeful that the inaugural Offshore Sailing World Championships for mixed double handed crews, will take place in October 2020. The Championships, which were revealed in a launch by World Sailing in 2017, were scheduled to take place concurrently with the 41st edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
The Royal Malta Yacht Club has been entrusted to host this event.
Although the Covid-19 situation might put paid to the event taking place, the Royal Malta Yacht Club is still working towards having a selection process in place which will eventually choose the Maltese Team for the Double Handed Mixed Crews category. This process, being held under the auspices of the Malta Sailing Federation and in cooperation with The Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation, will be fully supported by Yachting Malta.
The Club announced, that this process will only start after health authorities determine that the Covid -19 situation has abated enough to allow this type of activity.
The minimum age for crews composed of one man and one woman is 18 years old and both members need to be members of a Club or Association affiliated to the Malta Sailing Federation. Both members of the crew must be eligible to represent Malta as per World Sailing Regulation 19 – The Eligibility Code.
Eligible crews are requested to send an email to info@rmyc.org stating their interest in order to be kept updated with developments.
