Unsettled Conditions on Day Two of the Yachting Malta BSC International Regatta
Unsettled weather conditions disrupted the race schedule during the second day of the Yachting Malta BSC International Regatta. In spite of the challenging conditions, Race Officers Miguel Amaral and Bojan Gale and the Race Committee waited patiently with the fleet before establishing courses that would harness stable winds and enable the fleets to race.
Whilst the ILCA Fleets were able to complete three races, the shifty winds on the Optimist race course made it difficult to start the fleets causing Race Officer Miguel Amaral to be forced to make two general recalls. This resulted in the Optimist Class being able to undertake two races.
Provisional results after two days of racing are as follows:-
ILCA 4:
Timmy Vassallo (MYSC) continued to perform consistently, remaining unbeaten. Laidon Buhagiar (BSC) who finished in fourth place after the first day of racing climbed up to second place ahead of Harry Fairbairn (MYSC) who today finished in third place, with just one point separating him from Buhagiar.
ILCA 6:
Inspite of a third place in the first race, Benjamin Vassallo (MYSC) maintained his lead after winning the last two races of the day, four points ahead of second placed Lacey Aquilina (BSC) who performed consistently throughout the day, gaining a five point advantage over third placed Matthew Debono (MYSC).
ILCA 7:
There were no changes from yesterday’s end of day placing as Shaun Aquilina (BSC) continued his unbeaten run. Fellow team mate Crispin Peresso and Julian Elwood (RMYC) retained their second and third place.
Optimist Beginner:
Jeremy Decelis (BSC) and Ella Grech retained their first and second placing after the second day of racing. In third place was fellow BSC sailor Juanita Darmanin.
Optimist Cadet:
– Villams Osipovs (TJK-FVR) unbeaten run was put to a halt today, but nonetheless retains his provisional first place ahead of Emir Tombuloglu (Galatassaray) and Ethan Kodjaazliev (RMYC) who finished in second and third place respectively.
Optimist Senior:
Andrei Zhakov (BSC) retained his provisional first place, however Thomas Wilson edged himself past Matthias Spiteri (MYSC) and Jonas Micallef (RMYC) to take second place ahead of Spiteri, with a two point advantage.
All results are provisional. Racing resumes tomorrow at 1100hrs.
