Yachting Malta at the 35th Monaco Yacht Show: supporting a key pillar of Malta’s economy

Yachting Malta was present at the 35th Monaco Yacht Show, working with Transport Malta, the Malta Ship Registry and the Super Yacht Industry Network Malta to promote the Malta flag and Malta as a superyacht destination.

Yachting and the wider maritime industry are among the pillars of Malta’s economy. The sector supports a broad network of businesses and jobs, from registration, legal and financial services to marinas, refit yards, crew, suppliers and hospitality. Seafarer training is an important part of this. Several institutions in Malta offer maritime education and certification, building a skilled workforce for the industry, both locally and on board yachts worldwide. Yachting Malta works to support this sector, raise Malta’s profile abroad and bring new business to the islands.

Michael Mifsud, CEO of Yachting Malta, said: “Monaco is where the superyacht industry meets, and Malta needs to be here. Being present lets us meet owners, captains and industry leaders face to face and remind them what Malta offers. It is also good to see Malta recognised here, with so many yachts flying our flag in Port Hercule. That recognition has been built over many years by the registry, the authorities and the industry working together.”

In fact, many of the yachts berthed in Port Hercule this week were flying the Maltese flag, reflecting the confidence owners and captains place in the flag, and in the people and systems behind it.

He added: “Monaco is also a wonderful opportunity to promote our very own boat show. We want the people we meet here to come to Malta and see for themselves the marinas, services and expertise we have to offer.”

Why Malta remains a leader in superyacht registration

Malta’s position rests on four strengths. The first is regulatory stability: a consistent, well-established legal framework gives owners the certainty they need to plan for the long term. The second is compliance, since the Malta flag is known for its high standards and its standing with international bodies, which supports smooth operations in ports and waters worldwide. The third is responsiveness, with the registry and technical teams dealing with owners, managers and captains quickly and directly, whether for a new registration or a question raised at sea. The fourth is access to decision-makers. In Malta, industry and government work closely together, so owners and their advisers can reach the people who make decisions, which matters in a sector where timing is important.

More than a flag

Yachting Malta also promotes Malta as a destination for time on the water. The islands’ central Mediterranean location, mild climate, marinas and support services make Malta a practical base for yachts cruising the region all year round. Through initiatives such as the Malta Boat Show, sailing programmes that encourage wider participation in the sport, and its presence at international events, Yachting Malta works to strengthen these links and keep the sector growing.
