Over 50 yachts for Yachting Malta Coastal Race
Organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club
Wednesday 19th October from 1000 CEST
Start: Marsamxett Harbour
Racing action in Malta kicks off tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 October, with the Yachting Malta Coastal Race. Organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the day race is a perfect opportunity for the international fleet to familiarise themselves with the Maltese coast prior to the main event: the 43rd edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race starts on Saturday, 22 October
The Yachting Malta Coastal Race has shown an increase in popularity over recent years and is always a hotly contested affair. Over 50 boats are expected, eclipsing last year’s turnout of 42 boats. The 2022 fleet comprises a good spectrum of teams gathering in Malta for the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
The Yachting Malta Coastal Race is set to start at 10:00 CEST from Tigné Point, at the entrance to Marsamxett Harbour, near the Royal Malta Yacht Club. The race will follow a course to Comino. The time limit for the race is 17:00 CEST, with the finish also off Tigné Point.
The overall winner of the Yachting Malta Coastal Race will be decided by the best corrected time under the IRC Rating System. Individual class prizes will also be awarded at a prize-giving ceremony hosted during the Owners’ Reception on Wednesday evening.
Launched in 2015, Yachting Malta is a partnership between the Government of Malta and the Royal Malta Yacht Club. The organisation’s primary role is to identify and attract high-profile yachting events to the Maltese islands. Yachting Malta has supported the Coastal Race for the past four years as well as the live streaming of the Rolex Middle Sea Race start.
