Record Breaking Powerboat Thunder Child II in Malta for further Record Breaking Attempts

Multiple Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) record holder Thunder Child II is a powerboat on a dual mission.  Whilst it is out to attempt several new records, the crew of Thunder Child II uses these record breaking attempts to raise funds for various charitable causes.

The 22-metre powerboat, which is supported by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the Federation Monegasque Motonautique, the Malta Powerboat Federation and the UK OCRDA and BPBA, is currently in Malta where the Thunder Child II and the 54Knots team are attempting Seven UIM Offshore Class Long Distance World Record Endurance voyages covering 4000 nautical miles over 17 days.  Their latest endeavour was their arrival to Malta, from Monaco, in 18 hours 52 minutes. This record is currently awaiting ratification from the UIM. Meanwhile, conditions permitting a fourth record attempt, which will see them circumnavigating around Malta, Gozo and Comino, will be made.

As part of its efforts to support local charitable foundations, the Thunder Child II will be open to the general public this weekend where donations for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation (MCCFF) will be collected.

Berthed at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Marina, the crew will be looking forward to meeting guests on Saturday 17th June from 9am until 3pm and Sunday 18th June from 9am – 1pm.  Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the boat, meet with the record breaking crew and take home a signed, limited edition postcard of the powerboat.
