Jonathan Borg steps down as Chairman of Yachting Malta

Yachting Malta today announced the resignation of Chairman Jonathan Borg who leaves the role, at the helm of the private public partnership, after five months.

Mr Borg’s departure follows his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Transport Malta and has had to, relunctantly, relinquish his post at Yachting Malta.

A maritime industry heavyweight, Mr Borg’s short stint as Chairman, saw Yachting Malta host a multitude of initiatives, including the hosting of the Yacht Racing Forum, the YachtingMalta Coastal Race, the Yachting Malta IOM Open, the official launch of the Viva Malta offshore sailing project , the  YachtingMalta BSC Regatta and the official launch of the ORC Europeans planned to be held next April.

One of the initiatives close to Mr Borg’s heart was the assistance provided to Ukranian sailors to participate in the Euromed International Championships last December. Additionally, following Mr Borg’s direction, Yachting Malta embarked on an internationalisation project where Yachting Malta participated for the first time in the Dusseldorf and Dubai International Boat shows.

“I am confident that Yachting Malta will continue to be a beacon to the local Yachting scene.  Yachting Malta has grown into a respected entity, and gaining recognition abroad.  The team is well poised to achieve the strategy in place, nonetheless, they are assured of my commitment to co-operate through my new role, particularly in the development of the superyacht sector” – Jonathan Borg.

The Board of Directors and Staff of Yachting Malta thanked Mr. Borg for his contribution and wished him the very best in his new role.
